Lessons for women is a piece of writing I disagree with. Times have changed and women now have a voice. Although it might have been a sign of respect in the time period author Ban Zhao lived in, today we think differently. Ban Zhao did achieve great things and although I disagree with some of the things she teaches I truly think she was a woman of honor. Not because she followed the rules that were taught to her but because she was the first known female Chinese historian.

Ban Zhao was born in Shaanxi, China and lived during the Han Dynasty. The book "Lessons for women" was intended for her future generations as she explains in her introduction. Ban Zhao explains and introduces these four "woman qualifications" that were taught to her from a very young age. She also explains what a girls life looks like from birth. From the way girls were positioned in their sleep to the type of toys they were given. In her introduction she explains her concern for her daughters as there in the age were they are to marry. It tells a woman that she must follow certain rules to be a good enough woman. It does have good points such as being respectull to others , but I do not agree when she says a woman has no voice in a marriage. Today we do have a voice and we do have authoratie. From this book I've learned how women have come so far. We are now leaders and our voice is heard. The most important thing I learned was that you do not have to follow these qualifications made up by men to be someone respected. And I dont blame Ban Zhao for thinking these rules were the only way to achieve greatness in a marriage. I blame the minds who poisoned her mind and stopped her from having her own thoughts.
