Is it worth it to limit ones freedoms to insure safety? In Ellie Golding’s book “Lord of the Flies” boys from England are stranded on a deserted island with no adults. The boys have two leaders. Ralph who is more concerned about being rescued and making sure everyone’s safe during their stay on the island, and Jack who is more concerned about having the freedom to do whatever he wants without jurisdiction. The constitution gives us the right to bear arms. This is a freedom that is heavily debated due to mass shootings and police brutality that have recently been happening. Some people say that is an outdated rule and should be taken out of the Bill of Rights. I personally feel like this is an outdated rule and that the country would be safer if we were to extremely limit who is allowed to use guns. Another right that is being debated is should the government be able to read our emails and listen into our phone calls to make sure there isn’t any terrorist agenda. Some say that if you aren’t doing anything wrong then there should be nothing to hide. Others, however, believe it is an invasion of privacy. I personally believe that this is wrong and referencing the Second Red Scare as an example of how innocent people would be put on trial due to wrongful suspensions.
