Summary Frankenstein The novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelly starts off with Robert Walton searching for another passage in “a part of the world never before visited” pg. 1, through the Arctic Ocean. On his voyage he finds Victor in the middle of nowhere. Victor then tells his story. Victor created a “monster” which fled in surprised. After two years, Victors little brother dies by strangulation then he sets out to Geneva ot see his family. He speculates that the person who killed his little brother was the “monster” so he goes out to look for the monster. Once they meet, the monster tells Victor about his sad story and how painful he had to live his life. The monster tells victor to make him a female monster which victor failed to do. Because victor didn’t make the female monster, the monster became really mad and told him, “I will meet you in your wedding night”. The monster ends up killing victor’s whole family and victors gets mad and searches for the monster. Victor almost dies searching for the monster in the North Pole when a boat passed by to pick him up. Inside the boat was Robert Walton and this is where they end up. Victor travels all over Europe seeking knowledge and his monster. The setting changes due by the way the characters play out. First he started off in Geneva where he is “by birth a Genevese” pg. 14 was raised then he traveled to “The University of Ingolstadt” for “the completion of [his] education” pg. 23 there victor met Henry Clerval and created the monster. Shelly also does a great job on detailing the setting; Henry couldn’t enter Geneva because it was too late at night, “It was completely dark when I arrived in the environs of Geneva; the gates of the town were already shut; and I was obliged to pass the night at Secheron…” pg 49. The whole novel was victor going from place to place. The setting is a great way to see where the characters end
