June 12th, 2016 was not just a typical day in Orlando, Florida. Instead, a tragedy caused by Omar Mateen being the primary murderer of nearly 49 people and injured 53 people has occurred. The incident took place at a gay nightclub between 2:02am and ended at 5:53am when Mateen was shot dead by a SWAT team. Omar’s motives are not quite clear because he said that he is part of ISIS but no such evidence has linked him to ISIS. What is clear is that this mass shooting was considered as a domestic terrorism. The department of Homeland Security (DHS) plays a significant role in this case because preventing terrorism is its core mission. What happened in Orlando is considered terrorism because “… it [is] the worst mass shooting in U.S. history and the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil since the events of Sept. 11, 2001.” (abc news, 2016). According to the 4th amendment or more specifically stop and frisk rule, the law enforcement had the absolute right to use force against Omar in order to prevent additional danger. Moreover, the police did not have to wait for an approval from a higher authority to engage in the shooting. Instead, the safety of the public was so important and fragile that the police had to engage immediately.
