Everyone is different. We all have our own personalities and we all take different directions in our lives. People often find themselves lost in this giant world and feel as if they can't share what they are truly thinking or feeling. They hide their personalities and shield themselves from the people of the world, and the quote "Character is what you in the dark." all the more true.
“I conceive a knowledge of books is the basis upon which others knowledge is to be built” (George Washington). Above the quote communicates the idea that knowledge and information a person may receive is all because of books. Even those books that have been banned because of their content. For example, The Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963 for the most part takes place in the south; in Alabama. In fact, segregation has always been stronger there, making it a place most likely for death, violence, and hate toward African Americans.
Within Oneself Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses shows comfort is not always found in a place or in another person; sometimes comfort can be found within oneself. San Angelo, TX, where it all started to change. A boy whose only person he really grew up with had left, left him without a home as well. A new beginning awaits three young boys with different views of life, death, religion and love. But what awaits them can be a deadly comfort for the cowboys.

Melinda Sordino is the victim of a horrible night that changed her life. In the novel speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, the main character Melinda is faced with many challenges. Melinda attended a party the summer before ninth grade. She wasn’t thinking about the consequences that come with drinking, she was not thinking about how one little action could ruin her relationship with those around her,one action that could shape her identity into who she truly is, one action that she would be to traumatized to tell anyone about.

Don’t Let Me Be Lonely—An Analysis on Forgiveness Claudia Rankine’s, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely, incorporates themes that any one can easily connect with. In her writing, she includes topics such as death, loss, grieving, life, television, race, identity, forgiveness, a hint of hope, and, as the title states, loneliness. Rankine writes in a format that could be considered to be lyric essays or prose poems. Her writing, paired with visual cues, is filled with raw emotion that provides insight into issues that she has personally faced and that many others face on a daily basis.

While reading the story, you can tell in the narrators’ tone that she feels rejected and excluded. She is not happy and I’m sure, just like her family, she wonders “why her?” She is rejected and never accepted for who she really is. She is different. She’s not like anyone else
I’ve always wondered why people with a little or a lot of power tend to treat you unjustly. I’ve experienced many times when people with power treated me poorly. There were times in school with teachers, in school with principles and even out in public places. When I experienced these moments they made me feel like there were something wrong with me or I was different. Also, it made me feel like I was different from others… but not in a good way.
It goes to show you that when you first meet somebody, you have no idea what they 've been through, their experiences, or their story. I realized this after interviewing Mekion Grant, and did it make me think. He sat down and I presumed he was just the average senior, I stated if it was okay if I recorded this conversation, which he gave his consent. Little did I know, that I accidentally didn 't hit record, having close to none of his exact words on tape. Not that it mattered, because his story is something I 'll probably remember forever.
