What are 1960 's outsiders? What are 2000 's outsiders? They are both put out of society, but that can 't be it. The outsiders have changed so much, it 's incredible. But, why are insiders afraid of them.
When people think of someone in their family who provides for them many think of their mom or dad. Although, that is not always the case. Darry is the older brother and provider to Sodapop Curtis and Ponyboy Curtis in the book The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. Darry’s parents died in a car accident so he was left raising his two younger brothers, which are sixteen and fourteen. Although Darry can be harsh, he still cares deeply about his brothers and their lives.
This saves Pony by scaring the socials away but this seriously hurts the image of the greasers; to an individual who was not informed this was self-defense this makes the greasers look like criminals. The group does redeem their reputation when they save a group of school kids from a fire that was started in a church. This causes one characters to die; he sacrificed his life for these children(pg91-93). The final action that affect how society views the greasers is that Dally stole from a grocery store and is shot by the police for having a weapon on
They go out to eat and when they come back they see the church burning and hear that some kids are trapped inside. They burst inside to save the kids even though Dally told them not to. Johnny then broke his back after a piece of the wood fell on him and he went to the hospital he was in critical condition. For the first time greasers were seen as hero's even though the paper read " JUVENILE DELINQUENTS TURN HEROES" ( Hinton page 90 ) While Johnny and Pony were in the church a big fight had been scheduled between the socs and the greasers and if the greasers won socs can't jump them again after the rumble Pony Goes to the hospital to see Johnny and to tell them that they won, but he tells Pony that it is useless and that Pony had to "stay gold" and that meant to preserve one's innocence because Johnny had felt how losing one's innocence can change a person. He then dies, Dally bursts out of the hospital.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, how did three people's actions affect one person? Soda, Johnny, and Dally’s choices affect Ponyboy by staying calm, helping others, and making sure other people are okay. First, to make sure other people are okay, Ponyboy’s brother Soda decides to send Pony a letter whenever he is in Windrixville, because he wants to tell him how bad Soda and Darry feel and that he wants him to come home. “‘Hey Ponyboy’- he fumbled with a piece of paper in his back pocket-
“Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren’t so different. We saw the same sunset” (41). When Ponyboy thought of this quote in the novel The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, he was relating the two worlds of the greasers and the Socs. Ponyboy Curtis is the protagonist of the novel. He is split between the personalities of the greasers and of the Socs.
FINAL EDIT: In my eighth grade English class, we are reading a YA novel titled, “The Outsiders. ” I am amazed by this text because the author, SE Hinton, uses dramatic wording to create tension and imagination in her writing.. When I read this book, it feels like I am in the story, and that every event is the climax of the book.
Why is there controversy? S.E. Hinton brings the book “The Outsiders” answering the question on April 24, 1967. Francis Ford Coppola brought The Outsider to the big screen in 1983. Both the movie and novel have controversy throughout. The Outsiders takes place at the high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the story The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton, there are two rival groups/ gangs, the greasers and the Socs. A young boy named Ponyboy explained his journey being a greaser and the sacrifices, consequences, and decisions he had to manage with. This story reminds me of William Shakespeare's story Romeo and Juliet of their similarities which are they gangs, fights, and loyalty and differences that are the wealthiness, behaviors, and between the two books. One of the similarities of the two books is the groups/ gangs, because in Romeo and Juliet there are the Montague and Capulets and in The Outsiders there are the greasers and the Socs. They are both enemies and try to sabotage and fight each other when every they have the chance to.
In the novel, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton,Poneyboy made a choice that ultimately drove the plot. Poneyboy wanted to walk home alone, and got jumped by the Socs. “ No”, they had me down in a second, they also had my arms and my legs pinned down”,(Hinton 5). One of the Socs was sitting on my chest with his knees on my elbows, and if you don’t think that hurts, you’re crazy”, (Hinton 5). Poneyboy made this choice,because he didn’t want to wait for one of his friends or one of the gang members to drive him home, “ I could have called Darry and he would have come by on his way home and picked me up, or Two-bit Matthews-one of our gang members-would have come to get me in his car if I had asked him, but sometimes I just don’t use my head.
Exposition: The Outsiders By S.E Hinton doesn't make the setting very clear, but I think the story takes place in an unnamed city in the united states in the early 1960's. In the novel, there is the West side, and the East side, the Greasers, “The poorer than the Socs and the middle class” (Hinton 2) live on the East side. I The story introduces the main characters- Pony Boy Curtis a 14 year old who is the narrator of the story and, brother to Soda and Darry “ I have light-brown, almost-red hair and greenish-gray eyes” (Hinton 1), Sodapop Curtis a 16 year old and middle brother to Ponyboy and Darry “ Soda is handsomer than anyone else I know.” “He's not as tall as darry,and he's a little slimmer” (Hinton 7), Darrel Curtis a 20 year old also

Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders, it takes place when Ponyboy Curtis a fourteen year old Greaser narrates the novel about two gangs from two different classes; this is divided by the sides they live the East and West side. The wealth and status controls the Socials' reality while the greasers battle to discover personality past their status as poor, bring down class "hoodlums. " The greasers are missing out on a lot of things because of their dysfunctional families for example: love, guidance and values.
“When I stepped out into bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house I had two things on my mind” (Hinton 1) marks the beginning of a memorable quest and the turning point in the nature of our young protagonist. The Outsiders describes the peak of the continuous conflict between two rival gangs in the 1960’s, the Greasers and the Socials (nicknamed Socs), developed based off of economic status and personal expression. Though the main conflict seems to be between these two rival cliques, the true conflict lies internally within our quester Ponyboy Curtis who must decide between whether he should stand along his family and friends or remain on the outside. S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders apprises the quest of Ponyboy Curtis’s road to
“Running away won 't help.” Johnny was right. Ponyboy had people that loved and cared for him... they just didn 't know how to show it!” In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, proves that no matter what type of Social class you are; Greaser or Socs, family is most important and will help you get through the difficult parts in life.
When you think of family you might think of adults and their children, or kids who lost their parents but are still related to each other. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton tells otherwise. It shows that even if you are not related, you can still be family; you can still have love and affection for each other. In the book, there is a contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. There is connection shown between the greasers from the Socs in the blue Mustang to Johnny dying in the hospital not wanting to see his mother.
