Have you ever seen a child being abused? Children today suffer many forms of child abuse by parents, other adults, and even other children. Many children seek refuge in other environments such as schools or other adults. Schools can be the only place these students feel safe and feel loved by someone. Out of all the 718 child abuse cases in berks county 144 indicated child abuse and required intervention by berks county children and youth services (reading eagle). The rising number of child neglect cases in the U.S. more children are being placed in foster care. The cycle of abuse can push children to suicide or other outlets to release their anger. The girl wakes up early one morning and walks to school in the dark. She wanted to go to school where she felt people would care if she ran off, and be in a stable loving environment much different than what she had at home. She seeks the help from her teacher to give her the stability she need to get her through the day. At her sanctuary she cannot help but feel “in an overcrowded and unhappy home it was easy for any could to slip away (Barry 143). Her environment is so unhappy and bleak it is only human to look for an outlet for a little happiness. Her happiness was at school where she felt loved and important, and she felt her teacher actually cared where she was and what happened to her. When she sees her teacher she is happy to see her and starts crying, and running to hug her that surprised them both (Barry 144). Showing a child that you care about them and giving them a stable environment can drastically change a child’s life and can prevent a life time of being neglected. Mrs. LeSane showed her she cared about her and showed her to use her pain and unhappiness and create something beautiful in drawing.
