The Steubenville High School Rape case, is one of the high profile criminal cases within the last two years. The case occurred in Steubenville, Ohio on August 11,2012. When a sixteen year old girl was intoxicated and raped.She was publicized through social media of a video and sexually assaulted by two of her peers at a party. With an underage drinking party at Matt Belerdine’s house. Two students from Steubenville High School from the football team Richmond Ma’lik and Trent Mays were convicted in juvenile court for rape of a minor.But, adults were convicted for obstructing into rape. With seven months of investing, on March 17,2013 Richmond Ma’lik and Trent Mays were found guilty. Judge Thomas Lipps convicted the boys with delinquent verdicts on three charges digitally penetrating a minor, moving a car while intoxicated, and guilty of illegal use of minor nudity. …show more content…
Richmond Ma’lik was found guilty on counts of raping the girl, while she was unconscious and sharing the pictures and video of her. Richmond was given a year in the juvenile dentition facility. But, was released in January of 2014. Trent Mays is serving a two year sentence until this day. As of the conviction, both boys were registered as Tier two sex offenders until the age of twenty-one. However, the case had convicted other people affiliated to the case. A volunteer football coach, Matt Belerdine was pleaded with two charges of one count of making a false statement and one count of underage drinking. But, Matt was sentenced to ten days in jail, one year supervision, forty hours of community derive and fine one thousand dollars; by Judge Patricia Ann Cosgrove.
