On November 4, 2011 there was a grand jury report released with testimonies stating that Penn State’s Defensive Coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, had been involved in the sexual assault of at least eight different young juvenile males over a period of approximately 15 years that spanned from 1994 to 2009. There were also allegations that leading officials of Penn State failed to notify law enforcement after learning that some of the incidents had taken place (Viera, M. 2011). In 1977, Jerry Sandusky initially founded a group Foster home for troubled boys known as “The Second Mile.” The Second Mile is unfortunately where Sandusky met and built friendships with several of his victims. Tim Curley and Gary Schultz were also charged with one count of felony perjury and one count of failure to report abuse allegations. Curley and Schultz, both resigned from their positions with the university on November 7, 2011 after their arraignment. On November 11, 2011, McQueary, who was now the football team’s assistant receiver’s coach, was placed on indefinite administrative leave. Sandusky denied all the charges, stating that the only thing he did wrong was showered with the boys. On December 7, 2011 Sandusky was arrested on additional counts of child sex abuse, raising the number of victims from eight to ten. Sandusky was found guilty on 45 criminal counts on June 22, 2012. On June 30, 2012, McQueary’s contract as the receiver’s coach ended and he was notified that it would not be renewed. Even up until 2016 this case is continuing to be dealt with in the manner of Curley and Schultz. There have even been allegations made stating that Joe Paterno knew that Sandusky was involved in sexual acts with young boys the entire time. After a jury found him guilty of over 45 separate charges the sentencing process began, the judge made a statement regarding Jerry Sandusky's status in the community and the fact that he was able to become a predator without anyone knowing and was able to keep it covered up for so long (Bohm & Haley, 2014). The judge continued by also making sure that Sandusky knew the sentencing was being based on the facts brought up in court and that they are true beyond a reasonable doubt (Daily News, 2012).
