In the trendsetting 2014 podcast, Serial, Sarah Koenig, podcast host, weaves her listeners through the twists and turns of the key events and people associated with the murder of Hae Min Lee, which took place in Baltimore, Maryland in 1999. Lee’s ex-boyfriend at the time, Adnan Syed, was convicted of the crime and imprisoned for over two decades. Through Koenig’s thought-provoking and sometimes sympathetic tone, she ultimately strives to entertain podcast listeners and possibly shed some new light on the events of that cold January day. Additionally, her telling of a true crime inspires the listener not only to hypothesize ‘who did it’ but also conduct their own research. Overall, this is how Koenig tries to question the listeners' perspectives on how Mr. S. could be more involved in the case than just the random guy who stumbled upon a body. Because she ultimately desires to entertain, Koenig does not always remain unbiased in the presentation of information or the way in which she characterizes certain interviewees, even though she is an investigative journalist. For example, in episode four, when she talks about all the inconsistencies of Jay’s storyline, she shows bias by wanting to prove that Jay’s timeline is wrong to prove the innocence of Adnan. While going through and talking about the evidence, Koenig talks about why Jay never went to the cops: “Okay, they say – so if you didn't want to go to the police yourself, how about making an anonymous call then? You could have done it right after he shows you the body as you are leaving the Best Buy parking lot” (Koenig). By giving the suggestion that Jay could have just anonymously led the cops in the right direction shows that she wants to really hit Jay from every angle to prove that he is
