Going to work on February 9, 1999, a school maintenance worker stops at Leakin Park to urinate and finds Hae’s body. Albeit their alibis are not used in court during either trial, they are crucial information. Firstly, Adnan is seen by Asia McClain after school on the day Hae disappears. Asia and Adnan casual converse the library until Derek, Asis’s boyfriend arrives to take her home.“Asia plus boyfriend saw him in library 2:15 to 3:15”(Episode 1 00:33:52-33:56). Adnan does recall seeing Asia at the Woodlawn public library. This alibi is credible because both individuals agree to the statement, consistency of the testimony and a significant event to trigger remembrance in the alibi deliverer. After this day, school is canceled for the remainder week because of dangerous winter weather conditions and Asia gets stuck at her boyfriend Derek’s house. Hae is supposedly dead by 2:36 p.m., according to the state. Consequently, Adnan is guiltless because going to the library delays his arrival time to Best Buy, which leads to Hae and Adnan not being together at her time of death. Additionally, Hae is seen and observed orating with another wrestling manager, Summer, before she left school the day she goes missing. Summer hears about the position through Hae, who helps he learn scoring. Hae has an obligation after school, so she can not ride the bus to the match. To make Summer aware of this, she meets her after school to converse.“Summer said this conversation about Hae not getting on the bus happened after the last bell and also after the …show more content…
In court, the state of Maryland uses Jay’s testimony to prove Adnan’s innocence. Police interview Jay multiple times before the trial. In each of the interviews, Jay testifies differently. “In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. Two weeks later, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it beforehand - four or five days before”(Episode 4. 00:25:39-00:25:51). His inconstant answers prove to be uncredible when compared to reliable alibis and cell tower records(?). EXPLAIN MORE IN DETAIL ABOUT JAY. SET UP ARGUMENT THAT THE FINGERPRINT PROVES ADNAN’S GUILTINESS“It was one of those big map books you buy at a gas station, police found it in the back seat of Hae’s car. On the back cover was a partial print of Adnan’s left palm”(Episode 6 00:01:27-00:01:36). Analysation to determine the age of the palm print is impossible. Since Adnan is a close friend of Hae’s, he has rode and driven in her car numerous times. The map consisted of commonly traveled locations around their town. Arguments favoring Adnan’s guiltiness are
They used a kid’s testimony named Jay to put Adnan away, but his claims keep changing over time. The state should not declare Adnan guilty because Jay’s testimony is too inconsistent. Jay is very inconsistent in his testimonies. According to Serial Timeline Map, Jay’s first interview he said that he saw Hae’s body in the trunk of her own car at the Edmondson strip
On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was reported missing and later found dead in Leakin park in Baltimore . Adnan Syed, Hae Min Lee’s ex boyfriend was convicted of the murder then sentenced to life on the charge of 1st degree murder. Jay Wilds was the witness for the trial that stated that Adnan had killed Hae, and both Adnan and himself had buried the body. Adnan’s lawyer for this trial was Christina Gutierrez who failed to use the only alibi for Adnan, Asia McClain, and go through DNA evidence on Hae. I believe Adnan Syed should be granted a second trial, because of the competence of his attorney.
Burrowing Adnan’s car and then meeting up with Adnan after at Best Buy where Adnan showed him the lifeless body of Hae in the parking lot. After this he asked him to help bury the body. Jay decided to assist and bury the body claiming to have gone to Leakin Park with Adnan and digging a shallow 6 inch grave for Hae. This was the main evidence in the case that the state used to sentence Adnan to the murder of Hae. Jay was the main witness and placed Adnan with Hae before the murder and then with the dead body and getting rid of the
Therefore, it’s perfectly logical that Adnan can’t remember much about that day, even weeks later. Most importantly, both teens had alibis for January 13th at 2:36pm. Clearly, Adnan couldn’t have killed Hae that day. Next, while the jury does eventually rule in favor of the prosecution, when the state’s evidence is brought to light, it crumbles under the pressure.
The Serial podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig. Tells a story about a teenage boy Adnan Syed who was falsely accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. For the past months tuning in on this podcast I have not been convinced that there is any physical evidence, or anything that can in fact draw Adnan to this crime. The evidence is indeed flimsy. I have come to the conclusion that with the lack of evidence that Adnan is indeed innocent.
Your Honor, members of the jury, my name is Gracie Hernandez, representing the defendant in this case. My client, Adnan Masud Syed, was an honor roll student at Woodlawn high school that everybody described to be someone who was going to do something big and is now being accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. According to the State, on January 13, 1999, in Baltimore County, Maryland, during 2:15 to 2:36 pm, Hae Min Lee was murdered by manual strangulation in the Best Buy parking lot on Security Boulevard in Windsor Mill, Maryland, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend Adnan. Later both Adnan and Jay Wilds buried Ms. Lee’s body at Leakin park during the hours 6 to 8 pm. Today I will be proving Adnan is an innocent minor and does not deserve
This evidence supports my claim because if Adnan Syed was really at the library and Asia Mcclain really saw him at the library then investigators interfered with the possibility of having Asia testify for the jury. If Asia had testified for Adnan he would have had a fair chance of being innocent as much as he did being guilty. The second piece of evidence is the affidavit that Asia Mcclain wrote for the court stating that she was there at the library and did see Adnan at the library. Even when the plain proof was right in front of investigators they failed the chance of Adnan Syed’s
Hae Min Lee was an extraordinary girl who had a bright future ahead of her, until she was murdered on January 13. Hae Min Lee was only 18 years old when she was murdered and the person who was charged for her murder was Adnan Syed; Adnan was Hae’s ex boyfriend and was believed to have kill Hae, and there was enough evidence to help prove that he was guilty. However that is not the case for Adnan, because he is innocent and did not kill Hae Min Lee on January 13. The first thing that should be pointed out is about when Adnan found out that Hae had died; he was clearly shown to be very distraught. As described by others they say, “We went inside and Adnan was sitting at the kitchen crying, after a while he said that there had to be a mistake and Hae was still alive…
This is why Jay should be charged guilty for the death of Hae; and Adnan, based on his personality and legal actions is without a doubt guilty of aiding the murder of Hae. Adnan and Jay’s run in the with police is something to behold. “Jay said he didn’t take it too seriously.” (Koenig, “Episode 1”). This is what Jay told Sarah.
The day Hae Lee when missing everyone was worried, but they all thought she had just ran away with her new boyfriend. Adnan had asked her for a ride that day because he let Jay, a close friend borrow his car. Adnan was seventeen years old at the time the murder happened. According to juvenile justice scholar Barry Feld this age, “impairs a youth’s competence to make good legal decisions and participate effectively in legal proceedings.” (Murray) Adnan needed to be represented by an adult that could guide him through these proceedings and help him have an adequate defense.
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
Unlike Hae's other friends and family, who were constantly attempting to contact her, Adnan didn't respond in the same way and just acted nonchalantly and tried to avoid the police. The police say that he didn't attempt to contact Hae because he already knew where she was—lying dead in a shallow grave. However, Adnan assumed—along with others—that Hae was in California with her father. If this was a sign of his guilt, then Hae's current boyfriend of that time, Don, would also be guilty because he also didn’t page her after she’d gone
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
This proves that Adnan was the one who killed her. Jay and Adnan both committed a serious crime. Adnan killed Hae with the help from
