1) What were the 3 most important points made by the speaker?
The first important point that the author made is the fact that China is not really a nation-state. According to the author China, unlike the Western states and most countries in the world, China grow around the notion civilization-state rather than nation-state which started long time ago during the period of ancestral worship when the notion of state were different.
The second important point that the author made was that most of the Chinese think that they belong to the same race opposed to other countries where you can noticed the diversity within the population. According to the author this is due to the civilization-state.
The last important point made by the author is the fact that the relationship between the state and society in China is very different from the one in the West. For the author the state role in China is beyond the state role in Western countries because it is the guardian of Chinese civilization, of the civilization-state, has a spiritual role and is seen as the patriarch of the entire country.

We are trying to apply western theories to everything and when it doesn’t work we judge. We set some standards that all countries should meet in order to be considered as normal and of course, these standards support western ideologies. Democracy is a good example to illustrate that. Western countries have made their best get rid of communism and encouraged countries to be democratic.
