Most people would say that a hero is somebody that has super powers and wears a costume. Heroes don't have to be over powered beings; they can be regular humans. A hero can be anybody that takes risks shows courage, shows bravery and helps people in need. Heroes have a positive effect on the world. Usually, heroes "fight" against issues that affect them personally.
Superhero is defined as, “a benevolent fictional character with superhuman powers, such as Superman”. With the exception of fictional characters, there is no one in our society with superhuman powers. In everyday life when humans think of a superhero, the immediate thought that comes to mind are these made up abilities. Despite this cliche image seen in movies or read in comics, superheroes in this world usually do not have those superhuman abilities. Versions of a superhero in reality is an individual who strives to be exceptional and lead others into being the best person possible.
American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.
