During the Cold War the main tension was between two superpowers - the USA and the USSR. Even though proxy wars took place, the superpowers intervened in one way or another. There was a possibility of a nuclear war, but at the end both countries came to an agreement to stop exploring and producing these weapons. After the Cold War the world faced the new emerging threat - terrorism. This made our world more dangerous than in was before, since even though two superpowers had nuclear weapons, they were not willing to use it, but if terrorist get an access to nuclear materials, it will lead to a global disaster.
