Some people think that the documentaries are boring, but once they get turned on they are hooked. Documentaries are one of the most influential sources of film out there. This is because of the many purposes of them are to change or improve society, or just to enlighten us on a topic. While most of the other film genres are for entertainment; documentaries are supposed to be entertaining while still having a bigger purpose of informing or showing us something. “Super Size Me kickstarted a public nutrition debate ..... Six weeks after the film premiered, McDonald 's announced that it was eliminating the Super Size option from its menu.” (Jones). This documentary is a popular choice when people mention documentaries, as it was a very effective at affecting society as it said within six weeks it got a corporation as big as McDonald 's to change their menu. Through this film, it displaced the negative effects of large quantities of food and the unhealthiness that McDonald’s serves its customers causing them to make a change. One way that documentaries are so effective is that they are events that are important or interesting invents. “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never was critically acclaimed and did badly in theaters because it belonged to a niche of people who are Justin Bieber fan.” (Janpol). The most effective documentaries are that appeal to a broad crowd of people rather than a more specific crowd. If you have your topic to narrow the amount of people willing to watch it goes down and won’t be as effective or make as substantial of change. In the other direction, you need to pick a topic that you are into. “Whatever makes you happy, piques your interest, inspires (or causes rage)and activates is probably going to appeal to someone else. When you put passion into a project, others can see it.” (Luczon). While having a subject that appeals to the wide arrange of people is key to having a successful documentary. If you choose passion that drives to make a documentary and put in the hours it will be better. It will have better facts and people will be easier to persuade people or get people interested in your topic. You just need to figure out if your passion is worth putting your blood, sweat, and tears
