Agrin Niroumand Health Careers Exploration Papers In the busy world of medicine and medical careers, thousands of different jobs with very different descriptions exist. One of the health careers that I am interested in is neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeons are a small part of this vast world. They work very hard to help and treat people who have serious and deadly neuronal diseases or injuries.
Imagine for a moment, a surgeon in the O.R. performing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Their objective is to restore normal blood flow to the heart by grafting a vein or artery from the patient’s chest, leg or arm and bypass the blocked artery to the heart. Sounds simple enough. Oh, one more thing, the grafted artery is 2.8 mm in diameter, and there is certainly no shortage of blood and other bodily fluids obstructing the physicians view. In this situation, a surgeon’s ability to stay laser focused and not take their eyes of the patient is critical.
Initiating and advocating change for students and the community without the expectation of being recognized is what has made me an HBCU All-Star. The moment I came to Nashville to attend the Illustrious Tennessee State University, I vowed to be an advocate for change and lead on and off campus. Countless hours and many sacrifices were made to ensure that my scholarship exemplified academic excellence. Extensive strategic planning and professional development was completed to ensure that my leadership was effective for my student body, local community, and the HBCU community at large. Humble and willing service to my community is what I’ve executed through my civic engagement in political and community affairs.

Yet above all this, I believe I bring a great deal of passion. My experiences have led me to the belief that the best investment we can make is in each other. My parents had always regarded career as doctors to be of higher social and economic status, and they have passed on these "values" to me also since I was a child. Buy my life did not turn out as what they had expected, as I became a single mother of three children when I was just 24. I decided to complete my college and adopted the mindset of an over achiever and decided to become a major in biology to complete my bachelor’s degree which could be accepted in a prestigious medical school. Managing the school along with my growing family had become very difficult. Eventually, I had to drop out after a period of 3 years.
