Sustainability in Healthcare
Sustainability in healthcare means providing care for patients in a way that meets their current needs while saving resources for future generations (Kruk, 2018). The healthcare industry includes a wide range of things, such as saving energy, reducing waste, preventing pollution, and responsibly buying supplies and equipment. Many healthcare organizations have begun including culture ambassadors in their departments to help in retaining staff as well.
Creating a Culture of Sustainability Dialogue
In the organization that I work for, there are various opportunities for meaningful collaboration around sustainable practices. For instance, the organization has reviewed processes and identified areas for improvement. Based on research and real-world scenarios our sustainability committee works towards developing strategies that will reduce waste, conserve energy, and promote sustainable practices in the organization (How to Start a Great Green Team for Your Business, 2016). The organization also has a sustainability officer, who oversees sustainability efforts and advises teams on best practices.
