History of the Swastika
When a person looks at a swastika do they see the Holocaust or does that person see before all that evil, back when the swastika means good things? The swastika existed way before the Holocaust and it didn't mean anything bad until Hitler and the Nazis turned the swastika into an evil sign. The swastika has meant many things throughout the years and it has represented many things too. The history of the swastika is absolutely mind blowing and it is definitely something people need to learn about. Then he put a white disk in the middle of the flag. Inside the white disk he put a black swastika. The swastika then became the most evil and recognizable symbol of the Nazis. After designing the Nazi flag they put it on everything, posters, arm bands, medallions and badges. After Germany’s defeat the Allied government made it illegal to have the Nazi symbols. The Nazi symbols were removed and officially called illegal. It is legal to have Nazi symbols in the United States because of traditions and laws like freedom of speech. The swastika is a very controversial symbol. Some punk rock performers displayed the swastika as a symbol of rebellion. There have been many cases of anger towards the swastika especially after World War II. On July 26th 1935 several hundred anti-Nazi demonstrates gathered around a German passenger liner, they ripped the swastika from the ship's bow and chucked it into the river. Later on the police arrested a lot of the people there. The people arrested made an official protest against the authorities. Many of the protesters were later released. The swastika was used by one of the most hated men ever to live, Adolf Hitler. A lot of people think that Hitler ruined the swastika and it can never go back. It wasn't always this way though, before the swastika was “ruined” it was used as a very positive and powerful symbol across a ton of different cultures and continents. To this day the swastika can be seen on temples, buses, taxis and on book covers. The swastika was also used in Ancient Greece and Rome.
