The old abandoned church on Jay Mountain recently caught fire while 5 children were inside. Two boys bystanding had noticed that the church had caught fire and proceeded inside to save the kids. It was said that the two adults were watching children that were on a school picnic.

Finally, el Día de los muertos is much more spiritual than halloween. El Día de los muertos is a time for people to pray and honor their dead family members and friends, while halloween has no spiritual or religious importance. One thing that I learned from the video that I didn’t know before is that el Día de los muertos is a happy and joyful holiday. I always thought that it was a sad holiday.

Although, everybody has different ways of celebrating these traditions, majority of people celebrate the same way. A Quinceañero and a Sweet 16 are both big parties celebrated with family and close friends to show the transition of girls into their womanhood.
Large families have been known for their efforts to society, especially if they are involved in church. There is a couple in my church, who has two boys and three girls. The mother stays at home, while the father works at a mine. Along with homeschooling her children, taking care of a newborn, the mother teachs in church (which requires a lot of preparation), substitutes in a school and still visits with other friends and family. The husband spends time with all five of his children and provides for them.

On November 7, my family and I were invited to attend a quinceanera. A quinceanera is a traditional celebration of life and gratitude to the fifteenth birthday of a young Hispanic girl. It is believed that it was first celebrated by the Aztecs and Mayans and was adapted by the Spanish Catholics that conquered South America. The ancient Mexicans, or Aztecs, had many ceremonies to mark passages through the stages of life. This ritual emphasizes the young girls journey into womanhood and to announce her new social role to the entire community.
Halloween and Day of the Dead, despite their similarities, are very different. They are similar because they both have sugary treats and they are different because they are celebrated in different ways, and the preparation of the holidays are different. Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in Mexico, and Central America where people celebrate their ancestors souls and bring them some of their favorite things to their graves and throw many parties. Halloween is a day when children go out in costumes to trick-or-treat for candies and other sugary items, people also setup decorations outside their houses that look go along with the holiday.
Dia de los Muertos is very different from Halloween because of the way they celebrate, the way they decorate, and its culture and origin. They may seem similar from the outside, but as you learn about them you thinking might change. Another way they’re different is the way they celebrate is because on Dia de los muertos it is celebrated all throughout the day into the night and in America Halloween is only celebrated during the night time. Dia de los Muertos is a celebrated as a celebration of life not death for them and for us Halloween is a fun reason to get free candy. You also get to dress up and go around with your friends.
We make tons of food such as posole and tamales. At some point of that time everyone gathers around where baby Jesus is and we pray together. In my Mexican culture, we celebrate quinceaneras.
