The podcast I choose was Sword and Scale’s episode 49, which detailed the murder of Dee Dee Blancharde by her daughter Gypsy Blancharde and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn.
The story opens up with a Facebook post by Dee Dee Blancharde that states “The Bitch is dead!” After some confused inquires by Dee Dee’s friends, Dee Dee Blancharde writes “I fucken SLASHED THAT FAT PIG AND RAPED HER SWEET INNOCENT DAUGHER…HER SCREAM WAS SOOOO FUCKEN LOUD LOL.” This arouses the attention of her friends and the police are called and sent to her house. There they found Dee Blancharde dead and her disabled daughter, Gypsy, missing.
Gypsy is later found in Wisconsin with her boyfriend. There was outage that a murder had killed a disabled girl’s mother and then raped her. However, things are not as they seem. It comes to light that Gypsy had been the one to order the murder of her mother while Godejohn had been the one to kill her; they took money from her mother and attempted to flee.

Some studies had noted that adolescents and adults who were neglected as children have a smaller prefrontal cortex compared to those who were not neglected. The Prefrontal cortex also has a lot to do with planning and thinking ahead for future consequence. If we assume that Gypsy’s prefrontal cortex was affected, we could see this after the murder where she assumed that wiping the blood of her boyfriend’s hands with baby wipes would be suffice to hide evidence. Likewise, we could see that she had poor planning skills as well when she had fled with her boyfriend. Wouldn’t the police be searching everywhere for a chronically ill girl with a mentality of a seven year old? Especially after those Facebook posts about Gypsy being raped?
