There are many different ways that symbolism can be used. In the stories “The Cranes” and “That Room”, symbolism is shown by being parallel to the life of the author or by simple life stories. When most think about symbolism it creates this sense of fear of not understanding all of the material that is not stated. Symbolism is one of the most important forms of communication in literature. It is a way to get the imagination of the reader to really work. Without symbolism, stories could not be interpreted many different ways. In the story “That Room” it shows how symbolism can be parallel to the author’s life in different representations. The author, Tobias Wolff, takes some of his life experiences and changes them into a short story. This story is about a boy who gets a job working at a farm and things take a turn for the worst when out with his co-workers. The main focal point of this story is, obviously, the room. These boys all go into a room and get drunk, this causes them to take a new change and really show their true colors. Half way through Eduardo answers the door and never comes back. This is him taking that bad boy to a new level, he leaves the house with unknown people and could very well be getting into trouble. Miguel ends up getting so drunk he becomes incoherent. He begins yelling at the narrator and points a gun at him. He had reached his boiling point at that moment. Miguel had no idea what he was doing or how dangerous that event could have turned. In the middle of all of this happening Clemson is sitting there more drunk than ever. Right when Miguel just about makes the worst decision ever, Clemson leans over and pucks everywhere. Miguel already being angry turns his attention to Clemson and kicks them out. Putting all of this together makes the room seem like a horrible place. The room causes fear, terror, and all around
