In the first cover of The Great Gatsby, Gatsby seems to have it all but he seems to still be missing something. The second cover of The Great Gatsby shows a woman in a dress with a drink in her hands surrounded by luxury. To Daisy greed is about luxury, comfort, and having connections. This cover shows how Daisy follows wealth and social prosperity. While talking to Nick about her daughter, Daisy says, “I hope she’ll be a fool-that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool” (Fitzgerald 16). This shows that Daisy follows wealthy men because she believes that's the only way she can become rich and live comfortably. She fully understands how she is at such a disadvantage that she can’t even build herself a life by herself because of the sexism of the time. The color pink symbolizes beauty and foolishness. The cover also shows how Daisy is greedy even if it hurts others. When arguing with Tom, Gatsby says, “she never loved you…She only married you because I was poor” (Fitzgerald 100). This shows how Daisy will only be an acquaintance to someone if it benefits her. Even though Daisy loved Gatsby at the time, she married Tom because he had the money to meet her needs. When Gatz showed up at Gatsby’s house he said “I saw it in the Chicago newspaper…it was all in the Chicago newspaper. I started right away” (Fitzgerald 128). Gatz was talking to Nick about how he had cared so much about Gatsby even though he hadn’t talked to him much. Gatz still cared about Gatsby enough to show up to his Funeral. Gatz was very proud of his son. Later on, Gatz walks through Gatsby’s house beaming with pride about how his son was able to build his empire and own such astounding furniture.
