Young Goodman Brown lived in a town that is all connected to through the local church. Early in the story Young Goodman brown would set out to meet a person who would later be labeled as the devil by one of the locals. Young Goodman brown would have a vision of everyone in his community that would show him their wicked sins.
Young Goodman Brown is innocent man and married to women named Faith. The story starts off when he is leaving his wife to go on a trail through the woods. It is right after sunset that he left. In the woods he comes across a man who says he knows his grandfather and himself.
Injustice means lack of fairness or justice, and/or an unjust act or occurrence according to the dictionary. Upon reading three stories of injustice, one might find that some reactions are more understandable than others. ‘Young Goodman Brown’, ‘The Lesson’, and ‘Saboteur’ are all stories of a character being handed some form of injustice. Mr. Chiu in ‘Saboteur’ had the most understandable response to his injustice. Goodman Brown learns about all the bad in the world from a dream, Sylvia learns about the injustice of racial discrimination, and Mr. Chiu learns about injustice through the police.
According to Merriam-Webster, betrayal is defined by leading astray, delivering to an enemy by treachery, failing or deserting especially in time of need, or revealing unintendedly. All of these defined forms of betrayal are prevalent in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story, “Young Goodman Brown”. These acts of betrayal are exhibited on the protagonist by various characters throughout the plot, including the protagonist himself. This theme of betrayal contributes greatly to the protagonist’s character development and plot. Goodman Brown is betrayed by his family and community, however he is equally at fault for betraying his family and community, as well as his own beliefs.
Young Goodman brown is a story with a religious twist, many strange things happens to the character during the story. Young Goodman brown leaves his innocent wife Faith home telling her that he must go away for only one night. That one night trip in the woods changed many things Goodman believed that this trip would make him return a better man, however he returned the opposite. During this trip in the woods he comes with the temptation of following a man who actually later turns out to the devil. While he explored the woods with the devil, the devil opens his eyes to many of things about those around him in his village.
His journey into the woods signifies a journey into the forces of evil which can be described as the woods themselves. Since the story begins and ends in Salem it is a symbol of the starting point as well as and the endpoint of his life as he visits the woods. Salem is as said in the story a safe haven and the woods are filled with sin. Puritans believed the woods to be the habitat of the devil. Goodman Brown sees the minister and Deacon Gookin as well as many other townspeople making their way into the dark forest towards the ceremony. At this time, Nathaniel Hawthorne is displaying that many people of all ranks in religious and governmental society are sinners despite their external appearance. He holds on to the thoughts that as long as Faith remains holy, he shall find it in himself to resist the temptations of evil, but when he sees the pink ribbons from Faith’s cap his Christian faith is weakened. Hawthorne is using Goodman Brown’s wife, Faith, as a symbol of his own when he yells out “my faith is gone!”

I’m talking about the Young Goodman Brown story. What I think that is symbolic in the story is the village of Salem. The village of Salem stand for Puritan. The village of Salem is a symbol to represent the ideal and the believes of Puritan. I think this because I know that Puritan are very religious and believe that many things are the signs of the devil and witchcraft.
Young Goodman Brown published in 1985 was a short story by Hawthorne in Salem village. The central theme or gist of the story was seeking what is upright and what is immoral. The story was interesting, yet creepy, since Goodman Brown left his wife Faith for a night, assuring her that she would be okay, besides, all she had to do was say her prayers and go to bed, while he sets out looking for evil in a dark, gloomy, frightful forest. It was also intriguing when he pass his wife the following morning without greeting her. Another thing that stood up was the description of his wife’s cap (pink ribbon), making her appear youthful in the story.

Goodman Brown says goodbye to his wife and tells her that he must travel for one night, reminds her to say her prayers, and go to bed early. He has the intention to set out to the forest for errands.
The story of Young Goodman Brown is the story of a tale about the main character becoming aware of the hypocrisy of his faith as a Puritan. Through his travels in the woods at night, he unveils the truths, or what he believes as truths, about his wife Faith, neighbors, and fellow Christians. By the end, Brown loses all trust in his Faith, both literally and spiritually, and refuses to see any good in the world. The beginning scene where Goodman Brown meets the old man has the most significance in the story’s resolution. This is where his mistrust starts to form and where he experiences his first temptations to sin.
