What is school really trying to do with our lives? The article “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto is an article that talks about the problem of schools and how the goals are not what they say they are. Lack of Creativity in Education Creativity and abstract thinking are seen as the basis of education, but more and more, these skills are being lost, and even discouraged, in the classroom. Fourteen-year-old Line Dalile, in her essay, “How Schools are Killing Creativity,” uses rhetorical strategies such as metaphors, ethos, and rhetorical questions to strengthen her claim on how schools are discouraging creativity in the classroom. Dalile uses a bold metaphor at the beginning of the article that strongly introduces her ideas on creativity in education. The metaphor is as follows,“.. it is destroying our fascinating, curious minds.”
Society forces students to take classes in which some students might not have a slightest interest in, in the hopes of them becoming successful figures. It is more beneficial for students to take classes in which students are capable to succeed and grow rather then to to force students to sit in classes that give the students no benefits. Scott Adams writes in his article “How to Get a Real Education” about the inefficient school system, he says “is like training your cat to do your taxes”(98). Adams compares “training your cat to do your taxes” to B students in classrooms to show the readers the concept that sometimes students are not capable to do well in a class, and the time they spend in this class could be allocated better. To further his claim Adams uses himself as an example to show his readers that learning things that benefit him proved him well.
One hundred and eighty days per year. Five days per week. Fifty minutes per day. This is the amount of time an English teacher has to educate their students in one school year alone. In this short period, English teachers should be allowed to teach the curriculum they see fit for their students.
A student’s performance in school has to be one of the most essential aspects of high school since it not only determines your future but also your success. Some might think that the weekend is the perfect amount of time to relax; however, most students are still doing school work, and they don’t have enough time for themselves. This will likely affect not only their grades but their attitude in school. Even teachers work during the weekend trying to get in grades and plan out their next lesson. One current policy in education that should be improved is that schools adopt an approach of four school days a week because it benefits both the school and teachers, it improves students’ academic performance, and student attendance greatly increases
For example, teachers at Columbia Heights Education Campus give a student a lot of extra time to turn in their work which is bad because the students are learning that the teacher will just give them more time every day. Additionally, seven out of ten college students feel stressed which leads to dropping out. Also, thirty percent of college and university students drop out after their first year because of financial problems, stress, laziness and academic disqualification which proves how creative learning in high school didn’t help these students in self-empowerment or strength. Subsequently, when teachers are giving students free passes or extra time, they are destroying the students future because they are not teaching them hard work. Teaching students in a creative way is a waste of time for both students and teachers.
Synthesis Essay As a senior with six months to go until graduation, looking back on the last 13 years of school there has been good and bad things. Conformity was never really a big problem in my school. Students never had to wear the same thing or eat the same thing at lunch. We always could kind of do things our own way, but also follow the rules at the same time.
Have you ever woke up really early in the morning and thought, man school should really start later? Well I completely agree, for three reasons actually. My reasons are one when you start school your brain in not fully awake enough to learn to its fullest potential, two the absentee rate would decrease by a bunch, and three it would improve test scores by a dramatic fashion. In the next three paragraphs I will give you facts that will show you that these are in fact true. My first fact is that students aren’t awake enough in their first block class to really even get enough out of it.
Many kids in this generation have grown up being told to get good grades in order to get a scholarship, which in turn allows them to go to college. Is college worth it? From my research I have concluded that college is in fact worth it. Although many college graduates end up having debt, key aspects such as wider range of opportunities, connections and higher pay add up to an overall conclusion supporting that college is in fact worth the cost. A major benefit of going to college is the amount of opportunity that arises from having a degree.
1.Robinson argues that education systems and society are at fault for the low amount of creativity found in students. 2. Ken Robinson suggests there is a decrease in creativity as a result of an academic inability to nurture individualism as well as a societal pressure to become academically similar. Robinson effectively brings to mind the inadequacy of the education system by addressing its failure in equalizing the importance of all subjects and developing different types of intelligence. His line of reasoning mainly built upon a logical narrative that succeeds in persuading his audience.
