A Comedic Hero’s Journey is a story that involves a sympathetic character(s) on a quest because they are motivated, a setting that is either closely resembles real world or is the total opposite, and each main character going through a change. The book has a main character that is “motivated only by loyalty and love of friends.” (Purtill), a setting where life is “‘exemplary actions are presented as historically true. The imitations of life it presents are "rare," "most perfect," and "wonderful"” (Peterson) and each main protagonist “undergo a radical transformation….” (Eliot). All these elements make up and support the structure of Lousanh Muchacho as a Comedic Hero’s Journey. In Muchacho, we see that Eddie is not only motivated to graduate High School because of the promise he made with his mom, but because of his love towards Lupe. Eddie says, “... because I cut too much before I met Lupe and turned over my new leaf.” (Johnson 85). As Purtill goes on to explain, “... everyday character who rise to fulfill heroic roles, motivated only by loyalty and love of friends.”. Eddie is talking to his Cousin, “I just told Primo I didn’t like Juarez… What if they give me a shot and knock me out and steal my wallet and truck?” (Johnson 63). Both Eddie and his Cousin give the impression that Juarez is a very dangerous place, and in the real Juarez, it really is dangerous to go. This example of picking Juarez as a setting that closely resembles the real place Juarez in a ‘most perfect’ way, supports Peterson’s statement and the structure of
