During the 1900s, the ability for a company to grow very large became a reality. As the global economy came to fruition, companies could become multinational. Some multinational companies thrived and began to take over entire nations with their economic power. This economic power became a catalyst for policies from the government that would lead to more concessions and opportunities for the companies. Some of these concessions would go against the ideals of the countries in question. The countries in South America were susceptible to pressure by multinational companies.
