In the tale of two cities there are two main kids that are described and followed in the novel Tale Of Two Cities. Which are are Lucy and Cruncher Jr. These times were mainly awful for small children as they would be forced to work hard and long hours. Some would not survive from either the ignorance of others or disease due to their systems not being able to handle the filthy conditions. In the book tale of two cities it really showed how much kids were disrespected and didn't get any more or less attention than their parents. Children would work awful jobs and most of the time not be able to see adulthood due to some of the horrific tasks they were sent to do. Children were expected to do chimney clean up in big cities for the opportunity to make a little more money. This was very dangerous because back in Charles Dickens day didn't have any safety regulations or rules. This resulted in children falling down chimneys and high rooftops and plummet to their death. But even after some safety regulations to the many citizens of the citys this caused the rich to thrive and poor to decay. In the 1800s the child mortality rate was 43% before the child's 5th birthday. Nowadays we have very reliable programs for the poor to survive on. The proof of this is that the child mortality rate in 2015 was at an all time low of 4.3%. One of the examples in the program the government designed for the lower class is welfare and childcare. Welfare is for mentally or physically disabled people who can't work to the same extent as normal people would receive a sum of money from the government to provide you with money for food,shelter and medical supplies. Childcare is when the government sends you a certain sum of money that goes towards your child's care
