In the essay “Agonism in the Academy” by Deborah Tannen, readers get the feeling that the author is writing to students and educators. This led to Tannen’s essay getting published in The Chronicle of Higher Education. As readers, we know that students and educators are who the author is writing to because Deborah Tannen’s main argument is to explain that there are better ways of learning. And one way she plans to solve agnostic learning, or to improve it, is to have students and educators explore new ways of learning like having an open discussion because a debate will just lead to another argument and won’t solve anything.

My personal memoir was written from the perspective of Anna Louw. I chose the scene in which she took Toby to the party. I decided on this excerpt from the book due to the fact that this was the first day that Anna had ever met Toby. I showed her little knowledge of who Toby was by having her call him Mr. Hood until she had to introduce him to someone else. I wanted to express her feelings of the party and to show her worries of bringing Toby, a man she had just met, to a party with many races of people.
Deborah Sampson was born on December 17th, 1760 in Plympton, Massachusetts. She was a decedent of William Bradford, Miles Standish, and John Alden, who were all passengers on the Mayflower. For the first few years of her life, Sampson lived in poverty with her parents, Johnathan Sampson Jr and Deborah Bradford, as well as her six younger siblings. Her father left to claim a stolen inheritance and never returned, either dying at sea, or, as certain records indicate, moving to Maine and marrying another woman. Deborah Bradford was unable to care for her children and placed them in the homes of relatives and friends, with Sampson being hired as an indentured servant to Deacon Jeremiah and Susannah Thomas, two patriots who swayed Sampson’s opinions.

This warm June afternoon, I live in the Protestant village of Salem, Massachusetts, year 1692. Being a mere girl, I help my mother out at home with cleaning, tending to the farm, taking care of my younger siblings and many more chores. My older, and eldest sibling John is at school practicing literature and medicine as my father did before him. Everyday, he passes the town's courthouse who host trials starring witches prosecuted for doing the devil's work. It was rumored Marybelle Fisher was to be trialed today.
As a linguistics professor at Georgetown University, Deborah Tannen’s acclaim stems from her analysis of communication and its impacts on interpersonal relationships, with some of her most notable works highlighting the disparities of communication between genders. Tannen’s “Marked Women, Unmarked Men” explores how women are actively and passively perceived within society, categorically describing women as ‘marked’ due to their personal choices and actions, such as their appearance or surname. Through a marked identity, women are classified as socially extreme, permitting women to be prematurely judged. Despite one gender being ‘marked’ in society, Tannen dissects the distinction between the ‘marking’ of men versus women and the implications
The last time Mark had consensual sex was over three years ago. Not due to lack of opportunity, but because it no longer excited him. What did, was the power of taking one unwittingly, by force, and that was the case with Lila Ross. Even though his nips and bites and breathy gasps were designed the woman, and demonstrate his own urgent need, Mark 's ability to maintain an erection wasn 't caused by the heat of their kisses, her tight, womanly body, Lila 's obvious arousal, or the sensations the velvety warmth of her dripping cunt had to offer.
When I was seven, I asked my mom why she had come to America from Ethiopia. She told me that she had come so that I could have things that she didn’t, get the education she couldn’t, and see and do things she wouldn’t. I told her that I was going to make her proud and even though I was seven, I was stubborn, and set my goals high and worked hard. I will forever remember my mother crying as I got my college acceptance letters. Now, as a junior at Old Dominion College as an international affairs major, I’m setting to make her proud again.
There are many types of heroes. There are those who became heroes because of one event in which they demonstrated great amount of courage and saved the lives of others. Others are heroes because they overcame some adversity that they overcame such as losing a leg or being crippled due to an illness, or even, a battle won against cancer. Another type of hero is a person who had an easy life but chose to,give that up to help others. That was the type of hero that Julia Tutwiler was.
