What is being taught/addressed:
This video demonstrates a teacher review sight words with a group of students. She first states the word herself while pointing to it and then has the students repeat the word after her. On the chart of words that she was teaching the student they were only learning 3 new words and the rest where all review words. For the review words the teacher didn’t state the word before the students instead she just pointed to it and prompted them to read it. This video is demonstrating skills to use for the phonemic awareness pillar of reading since they are sounding out the words and associating the spoken version of the word to the written version. This also could be an example of the vocabulary pillar since they are building their vocabulary by learning these words.

I remember us discussing how important it is to point to a word when reading it as a class so the students are able to make the connection between the way the word looks and sounds. I also remember talking about sight works in class and reviewing the lists of sight words created by Fry.
Connections to Self:
The first thing I thought of when watching this video is when I was in elementary school learning all of the sight words. My teachers used very similar techniques as demonstrated in the video. I also remember observing in many different elementary classrooms and all of the teachers used very similar techniques to review sight words with their students. I thought this was very interesting since it shows that the way that was demonstrated in the video is effective and is easy to use since there are so many teachers using those techniques in their classrooms.
