Teaching Philosophy Statement

Many years ago, a simple delivery changed the course of my life. I was in my 8th year of teaching, thoroughly loving Middle School science, when a surprise arrived at my classroom door. A very unassuming young man brought a box containing my first computer for use in my classroom. I immediately began planning how this new equipment could impact my students. That one day, that one moment, led me to my intense passion for integrating technology in education.

My actual experience with both teaching and technology began much earlier in my life. I was blessed to grow up in an environment in which learning and creating were highly valued; a family of educators, artists, inventors, and a family business that evolved into a tech venture. It was no surprise that I would become a teacher. I have always been a sponge for new information. I simply love learning, about anything! My teaching methods became very student focused with emphasis on creation over consumption of materials. My students could collaborate, be creative in their demonstration of knowledge, and continue to be connected to me and to their peers outside of the school day. I was able to guide my students to learn in ways that are targeted to their level and differentiated to their specific needs, while delving into higher level thinking. I have been blessed to work in a district that saw the value in technology integration early on and invested time, money, personnel, and training on methods to guide teachers to the most effective and valuable use of technology in the
