As future teachers, there will be all kinds of students that we will get to know, all of these students are just young kids who are trying to find out who they are and where their place is in the world. All of the students we will have when we are teachers will possess different qualities and experiences that make them unique. Different qualities of the students may include that they come from different backgrounds and cultures, and they have different interests and passions. Unfortunately, bullying in a classroom can be quite common among students, whether the students had once been friends and had a falling out, or if they have never gotten along. Not only is bullying caused by differences between the students that they do not overcome, but it can also be caused by struggles at home or a lack of self-confidence. Bullying can start because the student may be lacking attention at home, and so they are searching for a way to get the attention they need. Another reason students may bully others is that they are not confident in themselves, so they feel the need to make others feel worse, so they feel better about themselves by bringing others down. A second behavioural problem that teachers may struggle with from their students is students being unwilling to learn or having trouble paying attention and causing disruptions in class. Often students may cause disruptions in the classroom while the teacher is teaching because they are looking for attention, they may be lacking from their home lives, or they find the lesson boring. When dealing with bullying, teachers need to express their expectations of how students are expected to act and behave in class when dealing with other students or with teachers. Showing that bullying is not going to be tolerated in any way in the classroom, can keep students from bullying others. Unfortunately, this does not always work, a second way to help diminish bullying in a classroom could be by setting a good example for the students. While some discipline is necessary to help kids learn that it is not okay to bully others, it is not always as effective as teachers may hope, often it can just escalate the problem. Talking to the student one-on-one and discussing why they are bullying others and how the teacher may be able to help in the future, can help the bullying in the classroom stop. When dealing with a student who is causing disruptions in the classroom there are several methods, both good and bad that teachers carry out. Often teachers may single a student out, this often makes the student cause more disruptions in class. One method that some teachers have used to get their students to pay more attention during class time is to arrange a new seating plan, putting the student close to their desk, this way the student is not embarrassed by being singled out, and it makes it easier for the teacher to keep an eye on them.
