I seek admission to The Fuqua School of Business for two main reasons: to obtain the core management skills that will enable me to establish a global institution that provides access to water and electricity, and forces substandard infrastructure to be obsolete; and, of course, to become a contributing member of Team Fuqua! I first witnessed poverty and hunger in my hometown of Monroe, Georgia, where the population is a mere 13,466. Inspired by my parents’ sacrifices and commitment to education, I arose from poverty by attending the University of North Florida on a full athletic scholarship, for basketball. Following my undergraduate studies, as a result of my brief professional basketball career, I had the opportunity to spend time in Craiova, Romania and learn the degree to which poverty exists across the globe. I found the conditions heartbreaking. Upon witnessing these conditions, I developed a major fundraising campaign for the local impoverished community and visited one of the poorest, local gypsy neighborhoods. Unfortunately, I was not able to bring that campaign to fruition, as I departed from Romania shortly after my dismissal from the basketball team, due to the team’s financial troubles. …show more content…
As someone who does not have a background in business, it is important that I attend a business school with high-quality professors. I will heavily rely on Fuqua’s first-class faculty to help me prepare for solving the world’s most challenging problems, strategically and effectively, across all organizations. I strongly believe Fuqua’s faculty is capable of helping me achieve this goal. For example, Professor Shane encourages confidence in subject areas that I may not have otherwise had the courage to pursue beyond the fundamentals.
