There is not a single action that a team leader can take that will ensure the team will function at peak performance. However, there are actions and decisions that a leader can take that will improve the chance the team will function at a higher level (Burn, Bradley, Weiner, & Shortall, 2012. To get started it is important for the CEO to build teams and get to know the individuals who share the vision and mission of the organization and want to see it succeed. This builds a level of trust with the employee and fosters better collaboration and communication. The competitive advantage will vary depending on the goals, mission, & values of the organization. Strategic thinking involves developing a direction that will eventually lead to building goals and objectives for the organization (Burn et al., 2012). When developing a business model and strategy, they must look at the internal and external environment that will play a factor. You have to include them in the process because they understand and know the organizational culture. This includes frontline employees to top executives. Oftentimes, there can be a good model and strategy, however, implementing or institutionalizing can be another challenge. The strategy involves action (Burns et al, 2012). Obviously, the last model failed, so a root cause analysis would be a great starting point. So, this led to many issues and must first be addressed. PhyCor was a PPM. Their specialty was to manage these groups and improve revenue, so to accomplish this, the new business strategy must address this and either give this control back to the physicians or create a way to allow their input, but in a controlled manner while still move the organization forward. The new business plan would have to show the physicians that while they are good at providing care, there are better ways to improving the overall operations of the organization to create better profit.
