Everyone has heard of the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer who many suspect has killed almost 100 young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. He was born Theodore Robert Cowell on November 24, 1946 at the Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers. His mother was Eleanor Louise Cowell, who went by her middle name Louise. Ted never admitted to knowing who his father was but his mother had said it was a sailor she knew briefly as Jack Worthington. Some suspected that Ted may have been fathered by Louise's own father, Samuel Cowell. Samuel Cowell was known by friends and neighbors to be a mean and abusive man. There he befriended and worked alongside the famous crime writer Ann Rule. She had been a Seattle police officer and was an aspiring crime writer at the time. In her famous biography about Ted Bundy, “The Stranger Beside Me”, she describes her friendship of Ted and what a nice man he portrayed himself to be. Many that knew Ted were completely shocked when they heard he had been suspected of such horrible crimes because he was so well liked by so many of his coworkers. During this time, Ted also volunteered on the governor of Seattle’s election campaign. This is where Ted got his passion for politics and what led him to pursue a law degree. After he graduated from the University of Washington in 1972 with a degree in Psychology, he applied and was accepted to a law school in Utah. Most reports of these missing women stated they had been seen with a good looking dark haired man named “Ted” who drove a VW Bug when they were last seen alive. The first victim identified as being murdered by Ted Bundy was on Jan. 31, 1974, in Washington. “Bundy claimed 11 victims overall in that state, one in California, two each in Oregon and Idaho, three each in Colorado and Florida, and eight in Utah” (Truesdell, Jeff.
