It is believed that you will walk past thirty-six murderers in your lifetime. You can not predict who will become a serial killer but there are many traits that serial killers have in common. There are four types of serial murders: visionary, mission-oriented, hedonistic, and power/control-oriented. Bundy falls into the power/control-oriented category. Ted Bundy did have a troubled childhood. He committed numerous crimes and was punished for those he committed. However, nobody would have suspected Ted Bundy who worked for a suicide hotline to be a serial killer. Who would think that someone trying to stop people from ending their lives would be going out and ending others?

Ted Bundy carefully chose his victims. They were all women with long brown hair. To Bundy, they were merely objects to gratify his desires and he said that he felt no remorse. He also stated that he felt that they belonged to him. He could not understand why their families were so upset over their deaths. According to the book Serial Murders, Ted Bundy was a handsome man, and finding himself in a relationship with a woman was easy for him, “except for his overwhelming urge to kill them” (Innes 30). Bundy killed many women from all over the United States. One of the women he attempted to kill was Carol Da Ronch; she fought back and escaped. Carol Da Ronch helped the police in having Bundy arrested by picking him out of a lineup. In the book Inside the Minds of Serial Murders, Bundy escaped by jumping out of a second-floor window and ended up in Tallahassee, Florida ( Ramsland 27). The first thing he did after he escaped was shown up at the Chi Omega Sorority house at Florida State University. He raped and clubbed four girls in their beds. Lisa Levy and Martha Bowman died but the other two survived. He bit one of the victims leaving a bruised bite mark and then escaped away that night ( Ramsland 27). According to the author Kathrine Ramsland, After Bundy escaped that night, he grabbed a 12-year-old girl in the daylight and a month later her body was found raped and strangled. Bundy was sentenced to death three times. He did many things in an attempt to try and stay alive. According to multiple sources to delay his death sentence, Bundy tried to interest scientists. He tried to interest scientists by telling them about the compulsions he had as a predator. Bundy also told interviews about his need to totally possess his victims (Ramsland 28). As explained by Kathrine Ramsland, In order to keep delaying his death row sentence he started confessing to more murders. He confessed to thirty murders in six different states. The murders that Bundy was confessing to were not murders he was being charged for. When he kept letting on about more murders he had committed, they kept delaying his death. The more he told them the longer they would keep him alive, which was what he wanted. Bundy ended up spending ten years on death row before being executed. However, on February 24, 1989, Ted Bundy was finally executed (Saltzman 38). According to Rachelle Saltzman, many believe, “ Bundy's death afforded him release from remorse and responsibility from his evil deeds”. Bundy never felt remorse for his crimes and people believe that if he would not be executed he would have had to sit in jail and think about the evil crimes that he committed and would have eventually felt remorse for his killings.
