This is due to the constant comparisons being made to other people, often strangers, with regards to relationships, appearances, or the lifestyle that a person lives. The trends posted around the topic is that social media affects teenagers negatively as it encourages teenagers to think more about themselves and possibly compare their appearances to another person, often a stranger like a celebrity or role model. There have been many studies towards this topic like a study called ‘Body Image Issues’ which proved that teenagers, specifically teenage girls are negatively affected by social media and they are often the people who constantly compare themselves to other teenagers and celebrities. The hypothesis is that social media affects teenagers thoughts negatively about their body image. This is an interesting topic as every teenager is on a social network and they all seem to compare themselves to somebody, regardless of whether they know that person or not. It is interesting to find more research about this topic as it enables the researcher to learn more about relevant situations that are going on around them as well as read others research about this topic.
