As a member of the Academy Award committee it is my honor and privilege to announce this year’s Best Actor/ Actress Award. The two finalists are Claire Danes as Temple Grandid in the movie “Temple Grandid,” a biopic of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who has become one of the top scientists in the humane livestock handling industry; and Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in the movie “Invictus,” sharing the story of Nelson Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.Two excellent performers but there is only one award. For this year’s winner, we compare the then through three main criterias: the difficulty of the character, the character’s actions, and how realistic did the actor/ actress portray the character. Taking on the role of a normal person is already hard enough but Claire Danes did an excellent job with her role as an autistic girl trying to fight against society belief while finding her passion in life. Of course, a special character alway comes with special dialogues and Ms. Danes performed an awesome job at reciting them as if she is experiencing the dysfunction herself. Mr. Freeman did a wonderful job portraying the one and only Nelson Mandela, giving us a glimpse into the past of the man who received so much respects from others. He did not just simply acted out the character but he brought the character, Nelson Mandela, to life. Ms. Danes did a magnificent job convincing me and probably the audience that she is really the great Temple Grandid, an autistic girl who accomplished her dream to work alongside
