In America, the judiciary has a legal system that helps solve any personal, economic, social, and political problems or cases. These cases are withheld in a court and presented to a judge and either a grand, petite, or hung jury to finalize their jurisdiction on the problem. In this essay, I will explain the structure of the Texas court system and their type of cases. To start, civil and criminal cases are two types of cases in this legal system. Civil cases handle private rights and remedies, personal injury suits, divorces, child custodies, or breach-of-contracts. Violation of penal law, like murder or speeding, that is prosecuted by the state are known as criminal cases. If the lawbreaker is convicted, then they could possibly be charged with, either or both, a fine or imprisonment. Burden of proof is an important factor that differs between these types of cases. There are seven different court types in Texas. Municipal courts or courts of record are state authorized courts that has exclusive jurisdiction to try violations of city ordinances, also handling minor violations of state law or class C misdemeanors. Most of these courts involve cases in traffic and parking violations of a fine $500 or less and doesn’t include a jail sentence. The justice of the peace courts are authorized by the Texas Constitution. They run jurisdiction over criminal cases fined $500 or less, original jurisdiction in civil matters that involve disputes of $10,000 or less. County court is presided by the county judge which is required by the Texas Constitution to be elected by voters. It process probate and other civil matters that involves disputes between $200 and $10,000 and criminal jurisdiction to major misdemeanors that punish with a fine greater than $500 or a jail sentence not exceeding one
