I have witnessed myself grow intellectually the past year significantly and into this year. Coming into English 10 honors, it was difficult for me to focus my ideas to have a central theme in my essays, it was challenging to get my voice to the reader, and most importantly it was very hard to for me to understand the difference between critical analysis and summary. Throughout sophomore year, I have improved my critical analysis skills; I have I have learned to continuously ask myself “why” and “how” whenever I made a claim in my text. Starting out with the “King Arthur,” (“Lady of Shallot”) until the end of the tenth grade with the “research paper,” I believe that I was able to practice critical thinking, theme, voice, etc. until I was able to conquer most of these skills fairly. …show more content…
This took my writing to a new level because I was able to go back, connect my ideas together, and then “assert quotes” to help me “explain” and answer “how” and “why” in my papers. Carrying this into junior, I have learned how powerful and insightful written texts and language could be through the “intro to rhetoric” and the “close reading” packets we have done, practicing “SOAPSTone.” I have prominently observed myself enhance and improve my writing through English class sophomore year and up to this point, not only through improving grades, but by noticing myself being able to express my thoughts and ideas precisely and an organized way.
