In modern times there is a camera on every corner and in almost every pocket. This has been caused by the boom in modern technological advancements that have swept the world in the last thirty-five years. Now in modern times technology can almost be unavoidable in first world nations. These innovations have lead to many remarkable discoveries in technology but have also created a slew of new issues that reflect the problems with the dystopian society that Winston Smith lives in in the novel 1984. With all the new technology and invasion of privacy that is committed by it, the modern world is beginning to reflect the fictional world of Big Brother. This information can be sold to various companies and then the companies create various advertisements and other things based off of this collected data on people. In “That’s No Phone. That’s My Tracker.” it is said, “Thanks to the explosion of GPS technology and smartphone apps, these devices are also taking note of what we buy, where and when we buy it, how much money we have in the bank, whom we text and e-mail, what Web sites we visit, how much and where we travel, what time we go to sleep and wake up--and more”. This means that these “phones” are acting less as phones and more as location tools for companies to use in order to market their products specifically for you. In the world of Big Brother all the citizens thoughts are known by the Party and that is similar now where all the information from your phone is known and saved and can be shared to countless companies. This is also bad because if this personal information gets to people who want to cause harm then it makes it much easier for these attackers to predict your moves and
