Succeeding the Middle Ages, the Renaissance was a time period in Europe of cultural and artistic advancements that changed the course of history, leading to the Modern Era. Humanism is a system of thought based on human individualism and self-worth that was greatly emphasized during this time period. People were expected to become active in public affairs such as literature, politics, and the arts. (Source 1)

Humanism was a movement that believed that the human mind had limitless potential. It gave humans more freedom rather than following dogmas and superstitions. It was the start of the more scientific and logical age, based on evidence rather than beliefs and religion.

Study of the classicals, mostly the Greco-Romans, were increasingly popular among the people of Europe; humanism was then starting to take shape. In the Renaissance the values and purposes of education was emphasized by humanists, who wants to use it to improve society, economic increased, and above all, to be able to restore religious beliefs.
When translated to english the French word renaissance means rebirth. This is a perfect description of the event. The Renaissance was a time of rebirth for people between the 1300s and the 1600s, in Florence, Italy. A time of education and self discovery. The Renaissance served as a transitional time between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age.
The Renaissance was the rebirth of Europe after it was terrorized by the plague, known as The Black Death. With this rebirth came a desire to redesign Europe into something better. The Renaissance was important to human history because, it began what is known as the modern ages where a new type of thinking known as Humanism began to appear. Humanism means that people are focusing on their time on earth instead of the church or heaven and instead focusing on individuality and human achievement. In the Renaissance,many people began to accept this new way of thinking, throughout this paper there will be six different figures/events/ideas that with reflect on this way of thinking.
