Whale Talk Bullying, harassment, and racism is a very common scenario among our new generation, that happens far too much. In fact over eighty percent of people have experienced some type of bullying whether it was physical, verbal, or even cyber bullying. Chris Crutcher saw the realism of our society and the outlook on bullying and wrote the book Whale Talk to emphasize the impact of bullying, racism and violence, and how serious the matter can be. Furthermore how it can affect a person and their everyday lives.
Sherman Alexie is a Native American who grew up poor but smart. At a young age he taught himself how to read simple comic books. As he grew older, so did his intelligence and love for books. He was aware of the stereotypes against his race which pushed him to work harder to be knowledgeable and literate. He eventually became a writer and reaches out to young Indian children who are at risk because of their race.
The bullying in Freak the mighty is very similar to everyday bullying. I believe bullying can make kids stronger to stand up to the bullies. Like shown in freak the Mighty. The bullying Freak and Max experienced makes them more understanding of each other , Stronger as friends, and also more courageous.

Writer Sherman Alexie has a knack of intertwining his own problematic biographical experience with his unique stories and no more than “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven” demonstrates that. Alexie laced a story about an Indian man living in Spokane who reflects back on his struggles in life from a previous relationship, alcoholism, racism and even the isolation he’s dealt with by living off the reservation. The book focuses on a young boy named Arnold Spirit who shows persistence and bravery as he defies all odds and strides towards a happier more successful life than his parents and ancestors before him. Arnold is a bright, inspiring young boy who grows up with little fortune and is destined to continue down the path of a poor, misunderstood Indian. However, his fate changes for the better when a spark lights the fire inside of him to strive to pursue a better, more flourishing life as he makes an extraordinary decision to transfer to an all-white school for a worthier education. However, the drastic change of schools puts a burden on his family to get him to school as well as leads to extreme bullying from not just kids at his new school but also from his fellow Indians in his hometown. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I learned that it doesn 't matter what your situation is and what you are expected to accomplish in your lifetime or what standards have already been set for you because you can be whoever you want to be with hard work, ambition, and confidence.
In his book the Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Sherman Alexie portrays a teenage boy, Arnold Spirit (junior) living in white man’s world, and he must struggle to overcome racism and stereotypes if he must achieve his dreams. In the book, Junior faces a myriad of misfortunes at his former school in ‘the rez’ (reservation), which occurs as he struggles to escape from racial and stereotypical expectations about Indians. For Junior he must weigh between accepting what is expected of him as an Indian or fight against those forces and proof his peers and teachers wrong. Therefore, from the time Junior is in school at reservation up to the time he decides to attend a neighboring school in Rearden, we see a teenager who is facing tough consequences for attempting to go against the racial stereotypes.
“In the middle of a crazy drunk life, you have to hang on the good and sober moments tightly.” (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie page 216) This is a quote from the book that shows how Junior learns how to appreciate the good moments in life. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie the character Junior faces problems caused by drinking. The book starts off with his family living on the Indian reservation suffering from poverty and death.
In the short story of “A Brief Moment In the Life Of Angus Bethune” by Chris Crutcher, the theme is that in order to overcome being bullied in high school, one must seek help in order to deal with the positive and negative outcomes. In the beginning of the story Angus is just learning how to cope with being bullied. First off Angus's parents got a divorce and are both happily married. Secondly Anus is a bigger boy and people tease him for it Angus gets bullied almost every or every other day by this horrible kid Rick Stanford and when Angus outlashes he gets in trouble with the school. “Angus is a cow”(1).

He has a wide array of dry statements mixed with metaphors and statements that are not meant to be taken literally. The trend for each years is that he starts off dry and literal and ends poetic and metaphorical. His description of his interactions with the “white girl” in seventh grade is a great example.
Around the world there are many kind of problems that afflict kids of all age but there is one in particular that is relevant, this problem is the bullying. Also many kids commit suicide because of this problem, this isn't an actual problem, the bullying exist many years ago almost all generations of humans witness the bullying in the childhood.
In the world, there are multitudinous different types of culture. They can range from a wide variety of them with some being closely related and others being really different. The book that I read was called The Pitcher. It is about a Mexican kid who lives in Florida and is an Immigrant. He is trying to make his high school baseball team and as the story goes on he starts to receive help from his neighbor who was once a world series champ but is now a drunk who sleeps in his garage every night.
Sherman Alexie presents the contradiction between heritage and nature as the main idea in this short story since it is related to people from a diverse background and race. Regardless of their own origin, it takes time for people to realize who they are and how they would like to live their own lives. William integrated his life by living through the way of Caucasian culture. Overall, the main idea of this story is that there is an underlying trend going on about how racism is more prominent in the coming years even if people don’t realize it. A certain inconsistency which results in people basing others of different backgrounds upon stereotypes and general knowledge without taking the time to consider who they are.
Recently, bullying has been becoming more and more of an issue. It’s gotten so bad that one out of four kids deal with it. Currently, bullying is worldwide. There’s no place where it began, because it’s pretty much human nature. Many people are trying to stop it, whether by using zero-tolerance policies, small punishments, and more, however, nothing has worked so far.
