The American dream to me is an individual that works hard enough and puts a lot of hard work, time, and dedication that person can achieve anything. The American dream is attainable to those who pursue their American dream. Many people may define the American dream unattainable to certain people because of their circumstances like being unmotivated, if one had grown up in poverty their are likely to stay that way, and geographical location. The American dream has probably changed since the past because nowadays it the American dollar is worth more and not as easy to find a job that pays good and provides good hours. In the book Scratch Beginnings by Adam Shepard the protagonist had stayed motivated to attain a job. Shepards first day at the shelter he was already looking for a job in the morning as Shepard finished his morning meal a guy walked by and shouted, “...‘who wants to work? Vans outside’ well, you didn’t have to ask [Adam] twice”(16). One may say that they may not be exposed to those types of opportunity to find side jobs like that, but if an individual is looking forward to start working already they will go out and search for opportunities like that.
