What is the American dream? For many people the American Dream can be different, for instance for you, your American Dream can be to be a famous singer, or own 10 cars, or it can be as simple as getting through that last year of highschool. The definition of the american dream is,”the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.” Id have to say i'd agree with this idea of the american dream because it is fair and equal and it's what it should be. Although most of the time the american dream is very hard to achieve and most of us end up settling for less. It means to be a citizen of The United States of America and believe in the basic principles of freedom, life, liberty, prosperity and ect. As Americans we all have similarities, for instance we all want to be happy and successful in our own ways, we all love and want to be loved, even though we come from different cultures and backgrounds we all share some of the same qualities and morals. What stops us from for filling the American Dream? Many things. The things that get in our way of success and the American dream are, financial troubles, high costs of living, drugs and alcohol, racial discrimination, sexism, greed and many other things. All these issues can be fixed by more acceptance of other races,cultures and genders, fix the financial issues by either lowering cost of living or raising minimum wage and lowering the price for education and have the government subsidize certain programs that focus and benefit the individual. That would make life easier for lower class citizens and give them a better opportunity like the people in the documentary, “ A Place at the Table”. And if we have better and more affordable education, more people could attend college and less people would be homeless or in jail. These aren't the only things that prevent us from reaching the american dream but these are some of the big ones.
