To go along with why Gatsby was unhappy, his American dream was unlike the rest of everyone around
Throughout The Great Gatsby, the American dream is portrayed in different ways, including Gatsby's journey from the bottom to the top, Tom and Daisy's attempts to maintain the image of their marriage, and Nick's pursuit of his career as a middle-class citizen. Gatsby always wanted to live the "American Dream" and live as a wealthy person. For the whole of Gatsby's early life, he was faced with many problems considering wealth. Gatsby had had enough of it, so he started working for a man named Dan Cody on Lake Superior. Gatsby learned his ways and became a professional bootlegger.
This is apparent in the text when Nick describes that he wants to “pursue a career as a bond salesman” (Fitzgerald 3). He then describes how this is the vocation that most men of his age choose to pursue, which shows that Nick’s version of the American Dream is like the American Dream of many other young men in the United States in the 1920s. This is significant because it shows that Nick is still working towards getting his American Dream, even though he doesn’t necessarily need to work for it. Jay Gatsby is a character who differs from almost all the other characters in the novel because his upbringing was so different from the others. While Gatsby attempts to convince the other characters that he gained his wealth from the inheritance of his wealthy family, it is ultimately exposed that Gatsby came from humble beginnings on a farm in North Dakota.
Being happy is the main idea of a fulfilled life; and in many situations this idea is hard to reach. The Idea behind the U.S. is THE AMERICAN DREAM. In this dream it is ideal that success will bring you life, liberty, and put you on the pursuit to happiness. To most people the “dream” is the chasing of material items, and has a terrible result to this idea. Most hours working and investing and less hours of enjoying what they have earned.
In the book The great Gatsby, it tells a story about how a nameless man earn all the money by himself and trying to reach a girl who he fell in love before; but after all the trying, he lost his girl again. This story is a great example for people who want to start by himself and try to reach the top of the world. No matter how hard you try, the american dream won’t come to you. The illusion might appear a short time, but in this world full of illusion, you finally won’t get anything. Gatsby tried, and he succeed- for a few day.
Over time many have viewed that America as the place where one can live better than if they were elsewhere. Most likely for job opportunities, that would make them successful and have them live in happiness. In the novel “ The Great Gatsby” the author, F. Scott Fitzgerald displays the American dreams with several characters such as; George Wilson, Jay Gatsby, and Nick Carraway. These characters can be seen using the American dream, with different results. The American dream is possible to accomplish, but not everyone can be successful in having the actual dream of a family, a good career, and happiness.

Scott Fitzgerald, one song really captures the theme of the book. The “Ain’t We Got Fun” song shows the way of life between the rich and the poor (Fitzgerald 95). The rich continue to build their wealth whereas the poor descend deeper into poverty.

Daisy had her own personal dream, which is to find love in a wealthy man that can take care of her and in the end, Daisy succeeds in achieving her overall dream. Daisy's dream was the cause of the conflict between Gatsby and her husband Tom throughout the novel.
