Art of Racing in the Rain “Gestures are all that I have; sometimes they must be grand in nature”(1). This novel is told through the eyes of a dog named Enzo, The Art of Racing in the Rain written by Garth Stein. Enzo is great listener, and makes Denny Swift, his owner, feels like he understands him, and the struggles he goes through during the book. Gestures are all that Enzo has, and he makes the most of his opportunities by displaying gestures to portray to people what he thinks on certain matters. The twins think that Enzo is not a very smart dog, however Enzo knows how to get his point across by using Gestures. The evil twins, what Enzo calls them, are Eve’s parents. They don’t really like Denny and think that he doesn’t contribute to their family. However Eve and Enzo knows that is not true. The evil twins also don’t play a nice game. They sued Denny after his wife dies. They also want custody of his daughter because they say, he is not responsible enough and won't …show more content…

Toward the end of the book, Enzo and Denny face a settlement that the twins gave them. The settlement says that Denny will Zoe, two weeks in the summer, one week over Christmas break, and the February break, along with the same visitation rights that he already has. The other thing is that he won't have to be support anymore, and they will put her in a private school on Mercer Island. Denny contemplates this a lot. His friend Mike says that he should sign the settlement because then he will actually have a life with some actual money, instead of being broke and having no life. But being the smart dog Enzo is, he extends his hind legs and has the papers in his mouth. At first Mike and Denny are a little mad but as they chase him around the house, trying to get the papers out of his mouth, mike eases up and starts to laugh. However Denny is still mad with Enzo.
