Milkweed was wrote by Jerry Spinelli. This is a story of an orphan in 1930s Poland who is very naïve and knows nothing. Not who he is, who other people are, nothing of the world around him. He knows only that he is small and fast and able to snatch food right from under the noses of the people it belongs to. He is eventually taken in by a gang of orphan kids, and becomes the special ward of one in particular, Uri.
In Milkweed, by Jerry Spinelli the main conflict is person vs. person. Throughout the story, Misha has an external conflict with the jackboots. Misha never really understands the actual external conflict here: it is between himself and the Nazi party. Misha, being given a Jewish identity, is in trouble (despite how happy he is about his "birth"). Misha's life is always in jeopardy, even if he doesn't know this.
Some people believe that books should not be banned from schools because they need to learn what happened. The first reason is that the books can be about our history and they used some words that are know bad. In the book Animal Farm “The three hens who had been ringleaders in the attempted rebellion over the eggs now came forward and stated that snowball had appeared to them in their dreams and incited to disobey napoleon 's orders” (Orwell 84).The book Animal Farm by George Orwell is a good book, but on page 84 the leader of the farm murdered 3 hens because they were rebelling to save their kids. Some people think that Animal Farm should be banned for having murder in the book but thats what happened back then during the russian revolution.
In the 21st century, many books are challenged and banned for their content, some of these include The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Animal Farm, and Fahrenheit 451. Many of the reasons given for banning are the same. The reasons include violence, language, symbols, and religion. This makes it very difficult for educational professionals; which books should be taught and which ones should be banned, when does protection become unnecessary censorship? Although Fahrenheit 451 shows some dark themes such as banning books, disregard for human life, and suicide, it should be included in the school curriculum because it shows the dystopian future that awaits the world if the events in the book become a reality.
Ironically, Fahrenheit 451 is one of the most banned books in American schools. The book was seen as evil for ideas like opposing the suppression of freedom by parties that presumed they had all the answers. Books such as Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Brave New World, The Giver, and The Hunger Games have been banned in schools, and they all explore the themes of suppressing freedom, information, and intellectual thinking. Prohibiting these books will only lead less thought; it will lead to the ultimate demise of society. If we do not learn from them, we will become them.
Just because a book that was written many decades ago may have bad words in it, doesn’t mean that it should be withheld from the students. Additionally, the educational value of, The Catcher in the Rye would be totally lost if a book is banned just for containing “explicit” language. Sophomore students are at the age where they are old enough to know what is appropriate and what isn’t and they can read a book that has bad words in it. If a book is banned because of its explicit content, that overshadows the educational content and the moral lessons that the reader would take away from reading this book.
Dear School board Everyone should have an open censorship because it affects our society by opening our perspective. Censorship is a suppression of words, ideas, that are “inappropriate” or offensive. The novel “Night” by Ellie Wiesel is a novel about the times during World War ll following concentration camps with the Nazis, therefore I believe this book shouldn't be banned. Even though some may believe “Night” should be removed due to its “violence” and “sensitive” topic; however this book informs and educates the topic of what really went on during World War ll. This book goes on to tell from Ellis' first point of view in which he describes the tragic events that happened to him.
Schools will at times ban certain books due to age restrictions, or will if it doesn't go with the school's intentions. This happens to popular author Stevin King with many of his books being banned from schools. As Mr.King describes” If you are not careful and diligent about defending the right of your children to read, there won't be much left, especially at the junior-high level where kids begin to develop a lively life of the mind, but books about heroic boys who come off the bench to hit home runs in the bottom of the ninth and shy girls with good personalities who finally get that big prom date with the boy of their dreams. Is this what you want for your kids, keeping in mind that controversy and surprise -- sometimes even shock -- are often the whetstones on which young minds are sharpened?” Because of how schools teach and the compulsory subjects you learn, having the opportunity to learn something on your own without the censorship of the school will help students in the long run.
Every child deserves a proper education. Banned books are depriving students of a well rounded, culturally aware, literary education because of the culture that is discarded, the history that is being withheld, and the education that young people could get through these banned books. The point of history is to learn from it and learn from others mistakes, but how can we do that if we are not allowed to learn it. As teachers shouldn’t you be teaching us how to make judgment calls like understanding that Mark Twain was a racist, but a man of his time and that doesn’t change him being an amazing writer. We cannot learn things such as that if we cannot even read most of Mark Twain’s books.

At one point in time, over 7,220 books have been challenged to be banned. Though these books have been removed for the safety of children, not all books should be banned for many reasons. These include the fact that banning books is infringing on the First Amendment, keeping children from understanding the real world, and, even though there are many reasons for book banning, not banning books could help a student’s education and can even work against itself. Banning a book from a school or public library could go against a person’s First Amendment of the freedom of press.
Moreover, it takes away a citizen 's first amendment and the right to free speech. Lastly, the series, Harry Potter has inappropriate topics that led it to being banned like magic, sorcery, and witchcraft. Some books are frequently banned in schools because they contain profanity/slurs, and explicit content; however, some people argue that these precisely same books are worth reading because they teach extremely crucial life lessons, and defends the First Amendment. There are multiple reasons why parents are banning books.
