Ian Graham Period 4 10/28/16 Section 1 - Muskets Before the weapons we know now, muskets were a major weapon. Muskets were slow to load taking around 20 seconds to do so and often misfired. These guns had calibers ranging from .69 to .75 inches. Muskets usually fired anywhere from 80-100 yards but were inaccurate weapons but did the job. Muskets could be fitted with bayonets, a short dual sided blade meant for close combat.
China's role in trade between 600 to 1750 was in part due to different conquests and re-establishments of power which perfected previous Chinese advancements. China's cultural identity help it become a large empire with borders that extended across most of Asia. Tributes systems played out in supporting the Chinese government which in turn formed alliances and enemies as well. These alliance stretched into large trading networks, strengthening Chinas' power in trade, goods, and ideas. Though the Yuan dynasty is not known for its innovations during this period.

To add,many may believe that the benefits didn’t outweigh the costs because of the lives that were lost. “If we die,unburied,in the wilds,our corpses will feed the crows.” The Chinese workers lives were lost because while building the Great wall of china some structures had fell upon them leaving them dead. Although many people died during this building the benefits did outweigh the costs because it provided protection,glorified China, and helped the trading system.
From then on, that invention was used every day and “revolutionized Chinese life” (Han Cornell Notes). Not only that but, the Han also used their resources to their advantage and used collar harnesses, plows, and wheelbarrows to help improve farming. All in all, the Han used technology to control its empire
Trade between China and European began to be affected. Any Europeans who wanted to trade had to go to the city of Canton, where they created a canton system. However, country such as Great Britain and France needed supplies such as “tea, ceramics, and silks” (Patterns, p. 604) from China. Great Britain refused to trade with the Europeans due to China voyages of exploration in the Indian Ocean around the 15th century and also the expansion in the 18th century. China wasn’t interesting in European goods anymore; hence led to tension between the both of them.

In modern society, guns are seen as a form of control. Those who have guns are able to overpower those who do not. This trend was set when guns were first invented and has stayed the same throughout history.
