The Book of Revelation is one of the most interesting books in the Bible. Most people refer to Revelation as a sign of the end of the world. It was written by John, a man who was said to have a vision from heaven. (The John who is said to have written Revelation is neither the Apostle nor the evangelist) (Harrington 180). It is probable that John wrote this in accordance to persecution occurring amongst where he lived. Most of Revelation includes symbolism and metaphors, which can make the Book very difficult to understand. John speaks of Michael, the Archangel, and other angels battling against Satan and the other angels who turned on God. After the battle, Satan and the other, now considered fallen angels, were no longer allowed in Heaven. Both Satan and his followers were thrown down to the earth (Rev 12:7-9). Although this battle seems like it was happening while Mary was in the desert, I sense that it happened before humans were ever on the earth. When I read that the Devil went after Mary and her newborn Jesus, it reminded me of King Herod, going after all baby boys who were Jews, in order to kill Jesus. Therefore, not only is the Devil going after Jesus, but also others who see him as a threat to their throne. Again, Mary fled to the desert with the wings of an eagle. The eagle is often used as a symbolic animal. However, in this manner, I do not know what the eagle wings on Mary symbolize. Because Mary was able to flee from Satan, he gave up on her, and decided to work with her "offspring", otherwise known as all of Jesus' followers. Calling the followers of Christ Mary's "offspring", symbolizes that not only is she the mother of Jesus, but the mother of all of God' children as
