Summary of Galatians Galatians is the ninth book of the New Testament. Galatians 1:1 identifies the author as the Apostle Paul. The book of Galatians was written somewhere between AD 51 and 57. The theme of Galatians is Salvation by faith in Christ, apart from keeping the law. Paul’s purpose in writing to the Galatians was to keep them from further backsliding. The church had been invaded by false teachers called Judaizers (they tried to bring Christians into bondage to the law of Moses). Paul wrote to magnify God’s grace in salvation and to explain the freedom of God’s people because of that grace. Paul disapproved of the false teaching of those Jewish believers who claimed that one must be circumcised and keep the Mosaic Law to be saved,
